Song Of The Week: “The Manifold Curiosity” by Kayo Dot

This Song of the Week is a song off of Kayo Dot’s first album, Choirs of the Eye, released 2003. For those uninitiated, Kayo Dot is an avant-garde band formed in Boston, Massachusets. Their music is an incredibly eclectic combination of progressive metal, post-rock, and avant-garde composition. The band is masterminded by composer Toby Driver, who was previously the leading man for progressive metal band maudlin of the Well. This song is a 15-minute long epic, progressing throughout a mish-mash of elegantly composed and powerfully atmospheric movements, until it culminates in a chaotic musical explosion. They have a new album, Gamma Knife, due out December 24th, 2011. Keep an eye on 90.3 The Core for some potentially exciting news involving this band…
