Song Of The Week: “Pedeadstrians” by Cattle Decapitation

This week’s SOTW is basically the polar opposite of the track (“People Say” by Portugal. The Man) that I chose last week. “People Say” is a fun, singalong pop tune written by one of the best indie rock bands around today. “Pedeadstrians,” in contrast, is a death metal song by vile metal band Cattle Decapitation. As their name suggests, their lyrics are very…. ahem…. medical. This is a song off of their 2002 album To Serve Man, which also includes songs entitled “The Regurgitation Of Corpses,” “Everyone Deserves To Die,” and “Chunk Blower.”  Even as I type this, I’m still not sure why I’m making this the song of the week. It’s an average modern death metal piece: fast shred guitars, blast beats on the drums, gurgling vocals, and grindcore tempos. I think it’s mostly because I think the song title is fucking hilarious. Anybody who would be offended by the brutality and crassness of a song like this is missing the point: it’s not meant to be taken seriously. This track is gleefully disgusting and tongue-in-cheek, at least I think. Regardless, it’s time for you to make up your mind.
